Potential For Joint Amenity Scheme With BW

Following a recent meeting with British Waterways officials, RaSCA have offered to consider some amenities to  a wider audience so that passing traffic on their way up the flight to Sheffield are not left high and dry.

Currently there are very few facilities along the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation, with very sparse suppliers of coal, gas, diesel etc, and nowhere to pump out a holding tank this side of Long Sandal. Sheffield basin used to have a pump out and other facilities, but these have been withdrawn in recent years. Many boats considering cruising up to Sheffield have gone as far as our site, turned round, and headed back the way they had come when they found out that they would be without any basic amenities for their vessels. Rather crazy for somewhere that allows use of their visitor moorings for up to 9 days.

As our aims and objectives include trying to encourage waterway use, we have offered to attempt to provide some form of respite for passing boaters and encourage people to travel up the flight and spend some time in and around Sheffield.

Negotiation as to terms and conditions are still ongoing
