Investigation Into On-Site Power

Since we moved to our current site, we have been totally dependent upon members generators for any and all power requirements. This may be changing however as we are having a surge (no pun intended) towards investigating more permanent power provision. Several of our members have engaged in a long term project of investigation and consultation into various ways of not only powering up our amenities and facilities, but also the distribution of power along the full length of our moorings.

Negotiations  with British Waterways, Yorkshire Electric Distribution Limited (YEDL), and other major contractors are to be considered over the coming months. Members are also investigating the potential for on-site generation and renewable energy sources. Some details on wind power generation and photo-voltaic units have already been received.

For a while a few of our members considered using a nearby take off with a small weir for incorporating a waterwheel project, but this was disregarded due to potential difficulties in obtaining permission from the land owners and for reasons of Health and Safety. The sluice is sited in BW land which is accessibly to any non-members with a boat or BW key.

The incorporation of power on site, will not only benefit our members for shore hook up, but will also greatly enhance our potential to offer better services such as a pump-out station, safety lighting, and improved sanitary facilities.
